Dr. Allen Garai
President
Dr. Allen S. Garai received his postdoctoral training in Rochester, New York, with a two-year specialty in orthodontics at Eastman Dental Center at the University of Rochester.
While at Eastman, he dedicated time to study of facial growth in patients with craniofacial abnormalities under the supervision of Dr. J.D. Subtelny, who is one of the pioneers in the orthodontic treatment of patients with this condition. Dr. Garai has been awarded the honorary title of “Diplomate” by the American Board of Orthodontics. This is the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association. Dr. Garai has served as attending faculty and taught lingual “invisible” orthodontics in the postdoctoral orthodontic program of Children’s National Medical Center and Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
In his free time, Dr. Garai enjoys playing soccer and various sports. He also sponsors several area youth leagues. He and his wife Sherry have three children and a dog name "Bella".

Dr. Garai has been teaching orthodontics, in clinical and didactic studies, at Children’s and Washington Hospital Center’s orthodontic departments. He has presented lingual treatment cases at the National American Orthodontic Association meeting. Dr. Allen Garai has been featured on NBC 4, “A New Me” TV show, and News Channel 8.

Dr. Sheira Ramos-Vélez
Program Director

Dr. Sheira Ramos-Vélez is a Board Certified Orthodontist that grew up in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology from University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Puerto Rico, School of Dental Medicine, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2018. Her post-doctoral education continued in a one-year General Practice Residency Program at Staten Island University Hospital. She then completed; her Orthodontics Degree at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
Dr. Ramos has worked with multiple complex orthodontic cases, including: orthognathic surgery, sleep apnea and Craniofacial. She is currently serving as attending and faculty at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and Children's National Hospital. Dr. Ramos actively participates in community study clubs to provide her patients with a multidisciplinary approach.

Dr. Ramos was born and raised in Puerto Rico, which makes her fluent in Spanish. She loves working and serving the Hispanic community. When not at work, she enjoys watching movies and series, exploring restaurants in the DMV area, dancing salsa and spending time with family by traveling to Puerto Rico.

Dr. Jose A. Bosio, BDS, MS
Faculty
Dr. Jose Bosio is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and has served as the Alumni and Friends of Orthodontics Endowed Clinical Associate Professor, Division Chief of Orthodontics, and Postgraduate Program Director at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry since 2017. He also serves as a guest lecturer and scientific advisor for MedStar Washington Hospital Center Orthodontics Program since 2023.
He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná, Brazil in 1987. He then pursued advanced training, earning a postgraduate certificate in Temporomandibular Disorders from the Eastman Institute for Oral Health in Rochester, New York in 1993, followed by his Master of Science degree and certificate in Orthodontics from The Ohio State University in 1996.
After 11 years in private practice in Brazil, Dr. Bosio transitioned to academia in 2008, joining Marquette University School of Dentistry as an Assistant Professor. In 2014, he relocated to Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, where he served as an Associate Professor until 2017, when he assumed his current position at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.
Dr. Bosio has received multiple awards, including the 2011 AAO Thomas M. Graber Award and was honored with Teaching Fellowship Awards from the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) in 2008, 2009, and 2010, as well as from the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation (AAOF) in 2011 and 2012. He has published nearly 50 peer-reviewed articles, one book, and two book chapters. Since 2010, Dr. Bosio has served as an examiner and consultant for the American Board of Orthodontics and is a reviewer for more than ten orthodontic journals. He has also held leadership roles as Chair of the AAO Council on Scientific Affairs (COSA), Past-President of the Society of Orthodontic Educators (SOE), and currently serves as a Board Director for the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontics.
Dr. Chad Rasmussen, DDS, MACM
Associate Faculty
Dr. Chad Rasmussen is a board-certified orthodontist with over 25 years of experience. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and received his DDS from the University of Minnesota. He completed his orthodontic residency at Washington Hospital Center and Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, and earned a master's degree in education from the University of Southern California.
He has over ten years of experience in both primary care dental practice and in the specialty practice of orthodontics. Additionally, Dr. Rasmussen has nearly twenty years of academic experience teaching dental and medical learners at all levels, including hospital staff, dental assistants, dental hygienists, pre-doctoral dental students, residents, fellows, dentists, and faculty. He has been involved with the Minnesota School of Dentistry as a Vice Chair of Education, and as Program Director of Orthodontics Residency at Mayo Clinic. He also serves on dental committees and is noted for his educational leadership, receiving awards such as Teacher of the Year 2021.
Dr. Rasmussen is passionate about treating patients with orthodontic needs including growth discrepancies, special needs, and cleft lip and palate. He enjoys traveling, music, and spends time connecting with his patients and community.
